Welcome to The Tea Spoonie Podcast

A millennial health psychologist serving up the hottest tea on living & loving with chronic illness

Hi, hello, I’m so happy you’re here!

I’m your host, Dr. Kate Herts. The Tea Spoonie pod is a project that’s very personal to me. Growing up with ulcerative colitis, I wished I had a community that really understood me and made me feel loved. Through my work as a Clinical Health Psychologist I’ve had the privilege of hearing many young people’s stories about living with chronic illness. My patients consistently echo this strong desire for community. That’s why I created this space – to offer support, share stories, and build a community where we can all thrive together.

Each episode is packed with real talk and practical advice on everything from advocating for yourself with doctors to talking to your loved ones about your illness. Throughout, I do a deep dive into finding emotional support and a network that truly gets you. One of my most vulnerable (and thus most meaningful) episodes is when I share my own illness journey, including the major surgery I had at 14. It was a tough time, but it shaped who I am today and fueled my passion for building community through this podcast. I hope you’ll check it out.

I also cover how to tackle school and work challenges, find a great therapist, and chase after your dreams, whether that’s running a marathon or landing your dream job. And guess what? You can listen to The Tea Spoonie on all the major platforms – Apple Podcasts, Spotify, you name it.
